Greene County state champ McKinley Robbins commits to Oregon State wrestling

The Oregon State wrestling program dipped into the state of Iowa for its latest recruiting victory.

Greene County's McKinley Robbins announced his commitment to the Beavers on Tuesday. He's now the 12th in-state senior to commit to a Division I wrestling program, and projects at 141/149 pounds.

"I am excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Oregon State University," Robbins wrote in an Instagram post, announcing his decision. "Thank you to all of the coaches and family that have helped me get to this point in my life."

Robbins might best be described as an under-the-radar prospect, though his résumé stacks up as one of Iowa's best. He's a three-time Class 2A state finalist and 2021 state champ. He will take a 127-6 career record into his senior season at Greene County.

Oregon State is entering year three under head coach Chris Pendleton and assistant Nate Engel. Last season, the Beavers went 8-3 overall in duals, took second at the Pac-12 Championships, then finished 12th at the NCAA Championships thanks to four All-Americans, the most for the program since 1995.

With Robbins' commitment, the Oregon State staff also continues a small trend of adding an Iowa presence to its roster. This upcoming season, three wrestlers with Iowa ties, including two natives, are members of the program:

• Triston Lara, a sixth-year senior 149-pounder from Fort Dodge who transferred after five years at Northern Iowa;
• Graham Gambrall, an Iowa City West grad who will be a redshirt freshman at 165;
• and Isaiah Crosby, a Florida native who won two junior college national titles at Iowa Western and is projected to be the Beavers' starter at 157 this season.
