Introducing the Des Moines Register's 2022 All-Iowa boys basketball teams

With the amount of talent that came out of Iowa high schools just last season, it's difficult to imagine who could top that.

And yet, Iowa keeps producing plenty of high school boys basketball gems, including a new crop of future college players at all levels. That doesn't make picking the All-Iowa teams any easier, with several deserving players left off these lists.

Six players are included on the Elite Team, which can include players from all four classes. There are six players on the First Teams for each class and 20 honorable mentions. All players included will be honored at the Iowa High School Sports Awards show this summer.

All-Iowa Elite Team

Cedar Falls' Trey Campbell is an Elite Team selection.

Trey Campbell

Cedar Falls | Senior | Guard

Campbell needs little explanation as to why he's on the Elite Team. He's helped Cedar Falls to the state tournament in all four years that he's played high school basketball. The Northern Iowa signee averaged 24.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game. He shot 54.3% from the field and 42.4% from 3-point range.

Ballard's Ashton Hermann is an Elite Team selection.

Ballard | Senior | Guard

Class 3A was the place to be for high-scoring guards this season. Hermann was second among all high school players with 27.1 points per game. The Drury recruit backed that up with 6.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.1 steals per game in his final season at Ballard.

Johnston's Trey Lewis is an Elite Team selection.

Trey Lewis

Johnston | Senior | Guard

Lewis helped Johnston to the state title game for the second straight year but ran into a determined Ames team with Tamin Lipsey back to full health. That doesn't take anything away from the success Lewis had this season. The Drury recruit averaged 21.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game.

Ames' Tamin Lipsey is an Elite Team selection.

Tamin Lipsey

Ames | Senior | Guard

After a couple of setbacks due to injuries, Lipsey finished his high school basketball career with a Class 4A state championship. The Iowa State signee has been a household name for high school basketball fans in Iowa for some time, and he showed why he'll be a Division I baller. He's an unselfish scorer, averaging 15.7 points and 6.4 assists per game.

Okoboji's Lucas Lorenzen is an Elite Team member.

Lucas Lorenzen

Okoboji | Senior | Forward

Lorenzen was the most dominant scorer in Iowa high school basketball this season. He finished the year with 744 total points, averaging 31 per game. He led all high school players in scoring from the beginning of the season and never let up. He showed up on defense too, averaging 11.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.

Waukee Northwest's Pryce Sandfort is an Elite Team selection.

Pryce Sandfort

Waukee Northwest | Junior | Forward

After playing alongside a trio of Division I level talent, this was Sandfort's moment to shine, and there is no question that he did just that. He finished the season averaging 26.6 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game, while shooting 52.6% from the field. Very few high school players come close to those numbers, and Sandfort is only a junior.
