Iowa State schedules official visit with Wright State transfer Grant Basile, its top target

Iowa State has locked in an official visit with its top target in the transfer portal.

Grant Basile, a 6-foot-9 big man who dominated at Wright State this season, has set an official visit with the Cyclones for April 30-May 1, a source with direct knowledge of Iowa State recruiting told the Register on Wednesday.

MORE: Iowa State has an easy sell for transfer portal targets. Here's why.

Basile, a Milwaukee native just like Cyclones head coach T.J. Otzelberger and assistant coach J.R. Blount, has been at the top of Iowa State's must-have list since he entered the transfer portal in late March. The Cyclones want a productive big man to plug into a much-needed offensive hole, and Basile has been their guy.

Other schools reportedly getting a visit from Basile in the coming weeks are Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.

Last year, Basile averaged 18.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 49.8% from the field en route to Wright State's berth in the NCAA Tournament, where it beat Bryant in the First Four and lost to No. 1 Arizona in the first round.

With Tristan Enaruna entering the transfer portal earlier this week, Iowa State now has three scholarships open for its 2022-23 roster. It has already landed a commitment from one transfer so far this offseason in Temple guard Jeremiah Williams, and Georgetown transfer Tre King committed to the Cyclones during the season.
