For the second straight summer, Ashley Joens is coming back home to Iowa with a gold medal.

The Iowa City native and Iowa State sophomore helped USA Basketball win the gold medal at the FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup with a 74-70 overtime win over Australia in Bangkok, Thailand.

Joens appeared in all seven of USA Basketball’s World Cup games, averaging 10 minutes a game off the bench. She was a late addition to the roster, after originally being named an alternate. Joens joined the squad as they departed the United States for the World Cup.

It’s the second gold medal for Joens. Last summer, she helped USA Basketball capture the FIBA Americas Women’s Championship.
