The Grand View women's wrestling program announced its first official signee, and she's an in-state recruit.

Keagan King, a senior at South Central Calhoun, has become the Vikings' first women's wrestling signee. She competed for the Titans during each of the last four years and has experience at both the state and national levels.

"Keagan is making history by becoming the first athlete to sign with us," Grand View women's wrestling coach Angelo Crinzi said in a release. "She brings the right type of attitude that we want in our athletes and I'm looking forward to being in her corner."

King wrestled between 120 and 132 pounds during her high school career and competed against both boys and girls. She compiled a career record of 46-65, according to stats kept by Trackwrestling.

King found plenty of success wrestling against girls. She won the girls-only Female Elite Wrestling Championships in 2017 and took second at the same tournament in 2018. She also competed at the 2016 Cadet women's freestyle national tournament, where she finished two wins shy of earning All-American status.

King's signing marks the fourth major development for Grand View women's wrestling in as many months. Athletic director Troy Plummer announced the addition of the program in early January. In early February, Plummer said the team would begin competing in the 2019-20 season. Crinzi's hire was announced at the end of February.

"The big push has been the growth of the sport," Plummer told the Register in January. "With the increase in interest locally and other NAIA schools adding it, we tried to determine if it would be a good fit for us.

"We wanted to take our time, make sure it was the right fit, and do it the right way. We feel like the timing is right. We’re fired up that, as the sport grows, we can be a part of it. That’s kind of how we’re looking at it."
