The man accused of running over four members of the Jones family of Nickerson on a sidewalk in Kentucky on July 5 was in court Tuesday for his arraignment.

An appointed attorney entered a not guilty plea for Michael Hurley, 33, on all counts, and a pretrial hearing was set for 11 a.m., Oct. 6.

The judge ordered Hurley to have no contact with any victims in the case or to consume alcohol or drugs, and his bond remained at $500,000, court minutes show.

A Jefferson County Grand Jury indicted Hurley on Aug. 31, charging him with one count of murder, two counts of assault in the first degree, one count of assault in the fourth degree, and one count of operating a motor vehicle under the influence.

Police previously reported Hurley admitted to taking hydrocodone before attempting to drive to work, and he then failed to make a turn on a downtown Louisville street corner, striking Trey Jones, who died several days later, as well as his wife Amy Jones, daughter Ava, and son Creek.

The family was in Kentucky for Ava, a basketball standout, to play in an AAU basketball tournament. Amy and Ava Jones, who were critically injured, returned home to Nickerson late last month and are both continuing rehabilitation.
