Nickerson USD 309 new assistant superintendent Amy Jones will take over the position for the 2022-2023 school year.

After finding an infection in her right leg, Amy Jones – the mother of Nickerson basketball star Ava Jones – will be postponing her move back to Kansas.

In an update on the Jones Family Updates Facebook group, Amy Jones said she had a setback and had preventative surgery to repair some deep wounds to prevent infection in her right leg, which was badly injured in a July 5 accident in downtown Louisville when an impaired driver hit Amy Jones, her husband Trey Jones and their younger two children Ava and Creek. Their oldest son Hunter was not in Louisville at the time of the accident, which was just over a month ago.

Amy Jones posted in the Facebook group Wednesday, saying an infection was found in her right leg and she will have "two more surgeries to look forward to in the next week." She will be back at the University of Louisville Hospital while Ava Jones continues rehabilitation and physical therapy at Frazier Rehabilitation Institute in Kentucky.

"I'm thankful the doctors caught this early but disappointed I won't be able to go home as planned," Amy Jones said on Facebook.

An update on Facebook on Thursday clarified that both Amy and Ava Jones' return home will be postponed, and they hope they can leave together "later next week."
