Iowa wrestling legend Dan Gable will have his own beer brat at Hy-Vee

As if winning an Olympic gold medal and the presidential Medal of Freedom wasn't enough, Iowa wrestling legend Dan Gable now has his own beer brat. 

Hy-Vee announced Tuesday it is partnering with SingleSpeed Brewing Co. to offer Gable Beer Brats, made from SingleSpeed's Gable beer, a Munich helles lager.

SingleSpeed originated in Cedar Falls and also has a taproom in Waterloo, the  hometown of Gable, who received the Medal of Freedom from then-President Donald Trump in 2020.

The beer brats are available at select Hy-Vee stores across the state, In Des Moines, those will include 2540 E. Euclid Ave., 3221 S.E. 14th St., 4605 Fleur Drive, 1107 E. Army Post Road and 420 Court Ave.

Wrestling icon Dan Gable now has his own beer brat.

Gable — who wrestled at Iowa State University, won his gold medal in the 1972 Olympics in, appropriately, Munich, and went on to coach wrestling at the University of Iowa — also will be making appearances at three Hy-Vee locations this summer promoting the brats: 

  • July 15 at 1422 Flammang Dr., Waterloo.
  • July 22 at 3600 Highway 151, Marion.
  • Aug. 12 at 108 Eight St. S.W., Altoona.

All three appearances will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

According to a news release, for SingleSpeed donates to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum in Waterloo a portion of the proceeds from  every six-pack of Gable beer sold.
